Building a Sales Follow-Up Strategy That Works
A cadence, reminders you trust, and a clear point to stop.
Most teams have more leads than they work properly. A follow-up strategy is how you get more value from the leads you already have.
Why follow-up beats new leads
A lead that already raised its hand is worth more than a cold one, and it costs nothing extra. Yet many are contacted once and dropped. Consistent follow-up is the cheapest growth available to most teams.
Set a cadence and stick to it
Decide the shape of your follow-up before you need it — for example:
- Day 0: first contact, same day the lead arrives
- Day 2: second attempt on a different channel
- Day 5: value-add message, not just a chase
- Day 10, 20: lighter touches
- Day 30: break-up message
Use reminders, not memory
Every lead should have a scheduled next action. If your follow-up depends on someone remembering, it will fail at exactly the volume where it matters.
Know when to stop
Define an end point so reps are not carrying dead leads forever. Mark it lost with a reason and move the energy to live opportunities.
